Updated Class of 2020 Graduation Plans

Dear Families,

I have exciting news in regard to this year’s graduation ceremony! This past Sunday Governor Cuomo informed schools that outdoor in-person graduation ceremonies could be held in groups of 150 or fewer, so long as COVID-19 numbers do not increase at a rate that the governor finds unacceptable. In my letter last week I informed you that if the governor changed his stance on graduations we would honor the request of the senior class and have in-person graduation, or what I referred to as graduation Plan B. The new graduation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 27th on the football field, with a rain date of Sunday, June 28th.

Since we are limited to 150 persons, to safely hold this ceremony, there will be three separate ceremonies of approximately 50 graduates per ceremony, and each graduate will be given two tickets. Since the state is strictly limiting the number of people in attendance, there will be a live broadcast of the ceremonies and it will be recorded and available for viewing thereafter.

Our ceremonies will be held at 9 am, 11 am, and 1 pm and students will be assigned a session next week. Details regarding your graduate’s session, as well as details around parking, social distancing, and health measures will all be shared this coming week.

In closing, I am very pleased that the governor has allowed outdoor in-person graduations as it gives the Class of 2020 a more traditional commencement, and allows families to celebrate this important milestone with their children. I am truly looking forward to honoring the Class of 2020 in person and I look forward to seeing you on June 27th.

Sincerely,
Mr. Bennefield
