Hello Tiger Family,
All year long you’ve heard me talk about our district goal – 100% of our students safely learning in-person 100% of the time. It’s a phrase you’ve heard me say over and over during our current COVID-19 pandemic.
However, this is a goal I have for our district long after the pandemic is over. Having each and every one of our students in school, ready to learn, is a team effort. It’s one that starts here at school and continues with each and every member of our school community.
Research from 2016 shows that missing just 10 percent of the school year, or two days a month, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. Over the course of the year, those two days a month add up to an entire month of school that your child is missing out on.
I encourage every parent to talk with their child’s teacher(s) after a student’s absence, to ensure they make up for any missed work or see what opportunities are available so that they don’t fall behind. If your child is absent on a mandatory COVID-19 quarantine, please contact them for instructions on joining the class remotely.
Making sure all our students have the best opportunity to learn is a big job, but we can make a difference for our kids if we work together.
Sincerely,
Dan Ward, Superintendent
