The Thanksgiving Basket initiative is a collaboration between the Hudson Falls High School Student Council and National Honor Society that provides 50 families in our Hudson Falls School Community – 10 in each of our 5 buildings – with a turkey, pie and all the trimmings for the holiday.
This undertaking would not be possible without the kind generosity and support of the students and staff throughout the district. That kindness begins to take shape once the donation baskets are placed throughout the high school classrooms and offices and through the support of staff and students in each of the other buildings expressed through the spirit of giving in so many ways.
On the Friday before Thanksgiving, the Small Cafeteria in the high school is transformed into a food distribution site with donations sorted and organized then distributed according to the size of each of the families served through this program. Over the weekend, NHS students demonstrated their baking skills in the production of Dutch apple pies. This year they went above and beyond in their contribution of 30 pies! On the Monday before Thanksgiving, recipients are greeted by students and staff that help the families load all the goodies to make their way home to get ready for the feast. And, should families need assistance with transportation, our dedicated corps of social workers deliver the feast.
We are especially thankful to our local Hannaford for helping us secure the turkeys at the center of the feast as well as the Argyle Cheese Farmer for producing 30 pumpkin pies to round out the meal.
It takes a village…and we are so grateful to live in that village with the members of our extended school community!
Happy Thanksgiving!
