Hudson Falls’ Emma Hammond received the Post Star’s 2023 Teen Excellence Award. The award showcases the accomplishments of students throughout the region and was presented to Emma and the other recipients March 21.
Emma, a senior, throughout her career at Hudson Falls High School, has been a dedicated member of the Student Council and is currently president. A tireless and detail-oriented leader, Emma has helped orchestrate several school and community service events from organizing food donations and filling Thanksgiving baskets to serving hot chocolate and doughnuts at Breakfast with Santa.
“Her selfless volunteerism sets an example to be followed. Nowhere is that more evident than in the countless hours Emma has devoted helping design and execute the window painting for Spirit Weeks throughout the year,” said teacher Kimberley Shea, who nominated Emma for the honor.
In a collaborative effort with the Student Council, Emma helped organize the gowns and accessories for our upcoming Say Yes to the Dress prom boutique. As a junior, Emma was inducted into the Sandy Hill Chapter of National Honor Society.
Additionally, Emma represents Hudson Falls as a member of Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner’s Student Advisory Panel. This group meets periodically in Ms. Woerner’s Saratoga office to discuss issues and concerns that might be addressed through legislative action. She was also nominated to compete for a United States Senate Scholarship.
