There’s cold and then there’s this … record-setting, sub-zero temperatures that will drop even further into double-digit negative numbers with wind chill factored in through Saturday. Please take every precaution. While we tend as New York state residents to tough out winter weather, I want to strongly encourage all of our families to learn how to “AVOID, SPOT and TREAT” frostbite and hypothermia. And while it’s cold outside the activities in our HFCSD community are heating up.

Science Research Team Lauded at Regional Competition
HFCSD seniors Lana Graves, Logan Staunton, and Dominick Doyle presented at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) competition Jan. 28 and walked away lauded for their presentations.
Among 80 competitors from 17 regional schools, they each gave a 12-minute presentation in front of judges and received very positive feedback from judges and moderators said
Physics and Science Research teacher Tom Vartuli.
Dominick Doyle won first place in his category – the first, first place winner in the HFHS history.
Dominick is now invited to present at the Upstate JSHS state competition March 8-9 at University at Albany, where the best of the best of the sub-regional from around the state compete for an invite to nationals.

Congratulations Emma Hammond: Teen Excellence Award
Hudson Falls’ Emma Hammond will receive the Post Star’s 2023 Teen Excellence Award. The award showcases the accomplishments of students throughout the region and will be presented to Emma and the other recipients March 21. Read more about it ….
Varsity Reads: Our Athletes Reading Aloud is More Than One Day
Did you know Feb. 2 was World Read Aloud Day? Did you also know here in Hudson Falls that reading aloud to students is an established and organized activity? Last week, varsity athletes visited classrooms reading to students. What can set a better example for our younger grade students than having students from upper grades show them the fun and joy of reading?

Mark Your Calendars
Thur., Feb. 9: Say Yes to the Dress, 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium lobby. It is open to members of the Hudson Falls junior and senior classes, as well as students from Fort Ann and Fort Edward. Items are free and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Sat., Feb. 11: PTSA Sweetheart Dance, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Primary School. This event is for primary students only and each child must be accompanied by an adult. Admission will be $15 for a child and an adult and $5 for each additional child at the door. Strawberry shortcake, crafts, music, and photo op included.
Sat., Feb. 11 and Sun., Feb.12: Foothills Council Boys and Girls Basketball Showcase at the Washington Ave Armory. Game times and matchups are still TBD but HS students will have the opportunity to take a spectator bus from the HS on Saturday for the girls game and Sunday for the Boys game provided at least 20 students sign up for each day. More details will be announced next week.
Wed., Feb. 15 and Thur., Feb. 16: In-person Hudson Falls Youth Baseball Registration 2023 will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hudson Falls Intermediate School Cafeteria. All players must be between the ages of 4-12 on or before April 30, 2023 (please note change from prior years).
Mon., Feb. 20 – Fri., Feb. 24: Mid-Winter Recess. Among many of the local options to keep your student productive and having fun are the events already scheduled at the Hudson Falls Free Library – check out the calendar!
