The Hudson Falls High School Student Council and National Honor Society (NHS) joined forces over the month of November to provide Thanksgiving meals to several families in the district. With five different buildings in the school district, the student leaders in both organizations saw an opportunity to unite the community in the service of others.
The group gathered and decorated boxes to distribute to different classrooms around the district. Students and staff were asked to fill the boxes with nonperishable goods. Each box outlined which items would be needed to serve a full Thanksgiving dinner. At the end of the collection period, student representatives collected the donated goods and organized and filled the baskets for pick up on Monday, November 20, 2023. The Student Council purchased the turkeys and NHS will baked the pies to round out a traditional Thanksgiving meal for the families in our school community.
Of the collaborative effort, Student Council president, MaryJane Mazurak said, ”Unifying the two groups allowed us to give back and create a positive impact on the community that we live and go to school in as well as to show our continued support.”
The group collected traditional Thanksgiving meals for fifty families in our school district. This allowed them to provide meals for ten families in each of the five buildings (KC, PS, IS, MS, HS).
In addition to all the work for Thanksgiving, Student council made a $1,000 donation to Operation Santa Claus and a $500 donation to Toys for Girls and Boys. All of their efforts are for the benefit of the Hudson Falls school community, with these donations assisting some of our families in need for the holidays.
