High School to Introduce Revised Schedule for 2024-2025

The Hudson Falls High School will adopt a revised schedule for the 2024-2025 school year. The schedule itself will be the same format as the 2023-2024 school year with four blocks per day with half blocks built in for labs and PE known as “skinnies”. The main difference in the schedule will be in the start and end times at the high school. The current schedule begins with a warning bell at 7:57 a.m. and first block kicking off at 8:01 a.m. Approximately 80% of high school students are arriving prior to 7:45 a.m. and are hanging out waiting for their day to begin, this will allow for students to be more productive with their time. Next year the warning bell will be 7:30 a.m. with the first block starting at 7:35 a.m. To accommodate this change it is expected that bus routes will begin 10 minutes earlier for middle school and high school runs and high school doors will open at 7:20 a.m. each day. Breakfast will still be available each morning from door opening to the start of the first block.

The 2023-2024 schedule at the high school had only two lunch periods and next year’s new schedule will have three lunch periods. This will eliminate cafeteria overcrowding, reducing lunch line wait times for students. Another advantage to the new schedule over the previous schedule is having a homeroom within the second block reducing the need for an additional hallway transition.

The last major change to the schedule will be for dismissal. Currently the high school dismisses at 2:26 p.m. and now the fourth block will end at 1:59 p.m. Tiger Time will be introduced from 2:04 to 2:30 Tuesday through Friday and will be for students that need to see teachers for extra help, lab makeups, PE makeups and any teacher assigned detentions. The benefit of Tiger Time is the availability of all teachers for support which can’t happen throughout the regular school day as teachers have classes that conflict with the free periods of many students. Students who do not need additional support will be dismissed at 1:59 and buses will begin picking students up at 2:25. All bussing students and those participating in afterschool activities who do not use Tiger Time will report to the staff supervised cafeterias to wait until their bus arrives or their activity begins. Snacks will be provided during this time from Nutrition Services. All other students not attending Tiger Time will be dismissed at 1:59. Individuals assigned to detention will be required to stay from 2:00 to 3:00.

As with any change, it will take time to get used to, but the ability to provide students with teacher direct support four times a week is a benefit sure to improve student performance. This schedule transition will only impact current grades 9-11 students as incoming freshmen will find the high school morning schedule to be very similar to the routine they currently follow at the Middle School.
