We recognize that celebrations like holiday parties, birthdays, and special snacks are important parts of the school experience. In an effort to create a safe environment for students, we have implemented an Allergy Snack Procedure for the entire district while children are in class. Positive Action is a curriculum that helps students gain perspective on feeling good about themselves based on their own choices and actions. More information can be found about the program’s website, Positive Action.
The NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services provides grant funding for the Positive Action program, as a research-based program that has been proven successful in preventing future addiction and destructive decision making. For more information, please visit the NYS OASAS.
The local implementation partner for Positive Action is Council for Prevention. The Council works with both HFCSD and NYS OASAS to ensure the best possible implementation of the Positive Action curriculum at the Intermediate School. Classrooms use many supplies throughout the year, and while your child doesn’t need to bring anything except a backpack, we know that some students and parents like to shop for school supplies. Click here for a list of supplies for each grade.

CURRICULUM

The enVisionMATH program is a core curriculum for students in kindergarten through grade 6. The program seeks to help students develop an understanding of math concepts through problem-based instruction, small-group interaction, and visual learning with a focus on reasoning and modeling.

One95 Phonics is a comprehensive system for literacy instruction that includes a whole class core phonics program along with intervention tools for more targeted support. Phonics instruction occurs in a daily thirty-minute block, building core-decoding skills. Reading teachers support our classrooms teachers to ensure students have a solid foundation with letter and sound relationships.

Wonders curriculum integrates print and digital resources to teach foundational skills connected to reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students build knowledge and key understandings across time, borders, and cultures by building background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, and verbal reasoning. Whole group, small group, and independent targeted work are built into this program.
