Students from both the Senior and Junior classes were honored during an awards ceremony held June 5 in the HFHS gymnasium.
Senior Awards

George Eastman Young Leaders Award: This award is given by the University of Rochester to a student with strong leadership experiences in their school and community, this student has extensive involvement in extracurricular activities, and also has high grades and challenging coursework.

Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award: This award is given by the University of Rochester to a student with rigorous coursework taken in the areas of humanities and/or social sciences, and has demonstrated commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues. This student has also shown leadership and dedication to community action.

Xerox Award for Innovation And Information Technology: This award is given by the University of Rochester to a student who has a strong interest and high level of achievement in the areas of innovation and/or information technology. This student leads other students to new approaches to old problems such as business plans for fundraising, innovative community service, after-school activities and best use of internal communication tools such as chat and blogs. This student also has exposure to new technologies outside of school such as pursuing work opportunities in local labs or industries.

Elmira College Key Award: This award is given to two students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate outstanding school and community leadership and have an interest in the academic programs offered by Elmira College.

Clarkson University Leadership and Achievement Awards: These students demonstrate strong leadership qualities. They have an academic interest in Engineering, Business, Science, or Liberal Arts and are recognized by students and faculty as having been a positive contributor to school and community. The students also have a 90% GPA and are in the top 15% of their class.

Lemoyne College Heights Award: Given by Lemoyne College to a student who has achieved at least a 90 average in a regents, college prep or honors curriculum and are ranked in the top 25% of their class. This student has made significant contributions in leadership and service both in the school community and the community at large.

Saint Michael’s College Book Award: This award is given to two students who have attained mostly A’s and B’s in honors, AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment classes and are inductees of the National Honor Society or equivalent. These students show a sustained and sincere commitment to community service, issues of peace and justice and concern for others.

Rensselaer Medal Award for Outstanding Math and Science Students: Given by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to a student who excels in advanced mathematics and science and who is in the top 10% of their class. This student demonstrates potential for success in a challenging academic setting and exhibits significant involvement in extracurricular activities.

UVM Citizen Scholar Award: Given to a student with at least a 3.5 GPA who has made a contribution to their school or community in some way.

The Keuka College George H. Ball Community Achievement Award: Given to five students. The scholarship is named after its founder, Rev. Dr. George Harvey Ball, whose vision is continued at Keuka College by educating young students and adult learners who “bring strength to our nation and to help humanity” through combined classroom and experiential learning. The Ball Award rewards students based on qualities that embody the values of Keuka College, including integrity, academic excellence, diversity, leadership, service, and social responsibility.

Alfred University Scholars Award: Given to a student who achieves an overall 3.0 GPA, or equivalent at the time of nomination. Student must be taking a course of study that is college preparatory in scope. The selected recipient will receive $30,000 per year until graduating from Alfred University (New York State students in our SUNY Supported Art & Engineering programs will receive $18,000 per year).

St. Bonaventure University – The Bonnie Scholarship: This award grants qualifying students $20,000 annually – or $80,000 over 4 years of study at St. Bonaventure University.
