I hope everyone was able to rest and recharge over the Thanksgiving recess. December kicked off with a busy week of activities and our first holiday concert this past Wednesday. First trimester marking periods are complete at the elementary schools and beginning Tuesday, December 10 through Friday, December 13, UPK – Grade 5 will have half day parent/teacher conferences.
Monster Sighting
Wednesday, December 4, Author Daniel Jude Miller visited our Primary and Intermediate Schools to give three presentations. The kindergartners took a mini field trip to the Primary School where Mr. Miller read them a couple of his books and shared with the students where he found his inspiration for characters and the stories. The presentation shifted for grades one through five as he encouraged students to find their passion by sharing his own personal journey. Students also learned the process of how he brings his stories to life as the author, illustrator and graphic designer of all of his books. The highlight for all of the presentations was the final reveal of what was in the mystery box. Spoiler: It was a monster made of recycled materials that then had a story built around it! A group of lucky Intermediate School students were invited to a special lunch with the author. A special thank you to Mrs. Craner for hosting and setting up this special opportunity for our students. We hope you caught our social media posts which included a Monster Project for our Primary and Intermediate students prior to his visit.
Thanksgiving Baskets
The district was brimming with Tiger pride as our faculty, staff and student body came together for a most worthy cause; providing 50 full Thanksgiving meals for members of our school community. The project which is student led is run by the High School Student Council in collaboration with the National Honor Society. Involvement has expanded at the elementary levels making it a truly district wide initiative. For more information I encourage everyone to visit the story on our webpage.
Celebrating Success
Prior to break, High School students were recognized in grade level assemblies. Awards featured students who made merit or honor roll, had perfect attendance and fall season scholar-athletes. Special recognition goes to our students of the quarter for each grade. Congratulations students!
This week, the Middle School recognized students in grade level assemblies of their own. A new category of achievement was introduced to students with high honors joining the merit and honor rolls. High honors included any student with a GPA of 95 and higher. Perfect attendance for the quarter put students into a drawing for Tigers swag with the main attraction being the naming of Top Notch Tigers. Two students on each team that demonstrate a variety of positive attributes were celebrated. Parents of these students surprised their students and were treated to a reception with their child as a thank you for this honor. Enjoy your VIP privileges and congratulations to this quarter’s Top Notch Tigers!
