August Newsletter

Happy August!

Can you believe it’s the last full month of summer already? During the month of July, we provided food and essential personal items in more than 160 different cases helping families and individuals in need. Our food pantry is open Monday through Thursday from 9-3. The food pantry will be closed on Fridays for the summer. If you or someone you know is in need of food, please give us a call to schedule a pick up.

Please note: Our food pantry will be closed the week of August 17th during the Feet First program.

Feet First 2026

Our annual program, Feet First, is approaching quickly! Feet First provides help to purchase new school shoes for children of eligible families that are attending Kindergarten through senior year in the fall of 2026. This year, call-ins start August 10, 2026 at 9:00 am. 518-793-0797. We will take your application over the phone and set you up with an appointment for pick up.

Families are eligible to apply if they are enrolled in an assistance program such as SNAP, WIC, SSI etc. Documents and verification of income and custody will be required to be submitted. Have paper and pen ready to write down appointment time and what documents to bring. Verification documents must be provided before gift cards are released to a family.  No exceptions.  Appointments will be made for the week of August 17, 2026.

When you call, you must talk to a staff member. Do not leave a message. Phone lines will be busy but please be patient and keep trying. Let’s help kids put their best foot forward when going back to school!

Outdoor Fridays

August is a busy month at Family Service Association, and we’ll only be able to hold Outdoor Fridays for part of the month. There will be no Outdoor Fridays event on August 14th or August 21st due to our Feet First program. We plan to resume Outdoor Fridays on August 28th and continue into September. Coming up, we have several different agencies scheduled to host an outreach table during Outdoor Fridays, so stop by and check them out!

Thank You!

A big thank you to Tri-County United Way and HUNT Real Estate Corporation for volunteering in 'CommUNITY Day' here at Family Service Association. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves to help beautify and refresh our office. Your hard work literally made our building sparkle!

Thank you!

Our staff have been attending workshops and sponsored panels to keep abreast of SNAP changes and how we can best be prepared in our food pantry. Thank you to the many involved partners throughout our region and state working hard to keep everyone informed!

Thank you to Regional Food Bank for hosting an informative panel discussion on SNAP changes, to Adirondack Food Systems Network workgroups for gathering ideas from partners in the north country, and to Alliance for a Hunger Free NY for holding monthly meetings for stakeholders, pantries, foodbanks, and soup kitchens to meet and share news and information.
